Sending and receiving, explained

HOW IT WORKS

Whether you're sending money or picking it up, here's exactly what to expect at every step.

SENDING MONEY

Two pathways, depending on your preferred payment and delivery method.

Online, via our website

  1. Create or log in to your account.
  2. Select the destination country, enter the amount, and choose how your recipient will be paid.
  3. Pay by bank transfer, debit card, or credit card.

In person

  1. Visit a participating agent location.
  2. Bring a valid government-issued photo ID (passport or driving licence).
  3. Pay with cash or a debit card.

RECEIVING MONEY

What your recipient needs to do depends on how the sender chose to pay them out.

Cash pickup

  1. Find a nearby Money Shuttle agent location.
  2. Bring a valid government-issued photo ID — the name must match exactly what the sender used.
  3. Give the agent the sender's full name, the country the money was sent from, and the 10-digit MTCN provided by the sender.
  4. Sign the receipt to collect your cash — there's no fee for the recipient to pick up.

Usually available for collection within minutes of the transfer being sent.

Bank deposit

  1. No action needed — funds arrive automatically.
  2. Typically takes 1–3 business days, depending on the sender's payment method and your bank.
  3. Check your bank statement — the transaction will usually show as "Money Shuttle" or "Western Union".

Protect your MTCN

Your 10-digit MTCN (Money Transfer Control Number) should only ever be shared between sender and recipient. If someone claiming to be from Money Shuttle or Western Union support asks you for it, don't give it to them — this is a common scam used to steal funds.
